DRAKE - ENERGY
AUDIENCE:
In the music video we see the 'Conceptual' aspect of Simon Frith's being used. The way it's used is by random scenes from past events being used throughout the music video which gives 'energy' to the audience as it's all random and with the beat of the song can make them excited revisiting historic moments. For example, in the music video we see the recreation of songs which were talked about a lot such as Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus and Bound 2 which when the audience sees can get excited about it due to the fast editing too.
NARRATIVE
The narrative in the music video is edited fast and is a flow of different historic moments mainly music videos which have been controversial in the past. The benefit of Drake doing this is that it could make people think about these controversial moments and make them realise that they're not controversial but they're unique and have energy and belief to be different. For example, wrecking ball was shown in the music video part of the narrative and was heavily criticised when it was first released due to Miley Cyrus's actions but Drake could be implying that she was unique and showed her 'energy' like that.
INSTITUTIONS
Drake is a Canadian rapper who first made his scene in the music scene in 2007. Three years later he released his first album 'Thank me later' which topped the charts and was number one in the US billboard which was certified platinum due to the success. He then released two other songs 'Take Care' and 'Nothing was the same' which was also hugely successful and helped him win his first grammy award for best Rap Album. This song was featured in the album 'If you're reading this it's too late' which sold over a million copies in one week.
GENRE
The genre of the song is Hip-Hop which is not surprising as Drake is mainly a Hip-Hop artist. One way we know this is the clothes that are worn in the music video which can portray wealth due to brands such as OVO being in it which is an expensive brand. In addition to that there's lots of close-ups also used which can show power. Power is an important part in Hip-Hop as artists tend to always show to the audience the amount of power they have in different ways which close-ups on Drake shows as it shows him as an important person.
