Production Schedule

Hello everyone today me and my partner decided to our production schedule so we know when we can film and where. We decided our locations and date accordingly. This is because we wanted to ensure when we're filming outside we had the best weather possible such as it being sunny or cloudy as this can effect the mood of the video. We also have contingency plan just in case anything goes wrong we know what to do as it'll be planned ahead so we don't fall behind schedule.

Top 3 Artist

Hello everyone today I'll be showing you some artists that are in my shortlist for me and my partner to do for my music video. The reasons behind me picking these songs is that they're all fast paced which I believe is important as it makes the viewer more interested and in addition to that me and my partner have chosen a woman artist and all these songs can be performed by one.

1. Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman

2. Kygo & Ellie Goulding - First time

3. Rihanna - Diamonds

4. Kehlani - Personal

5. Kiana Ledé - Fairplay

Weekly Update

Hello everyone another week has gone by and it's time for another weekly update. This week I first done my shopping list for my music video. This was necessary as I needed to research and find out the conventions of both pop and RnB as we wanted to mix the conventions in our music video to make it unique. After I researched the conventions I recorded people and also gave away written survey's to find more about my target audience. This was necessary as I needed to know what people expected from a music video in more detail which I managed to find out. After that I done a conclusion to bring the results together to analyse exactly what people wanted from the music video and based on the results I explained the actions I will carry out to meet the needs of my target audience.

Target Audience - Analysis

Hello everyone today I'm going to be analysing the results of the survey both the written and video answers.

The first question was about based on their age. This was because we believe the music video will be suitable for teenagers/young adults and as a result wanted them to ask them questions to find out what exactly they like and make my video suitable for them. There was no one younger than the age of 16 and no more than 18. I managed to interview most of the 18 year olds rather than giving them the survey to fill out and the 16/17 year olds filled out the survey.

I wanted to ensure that the results of my survey was balanced between male and female. As a result I asked four girls and one boy to fill out my survey and recorded four boys.

When asked about how many music videos you watch the majority watch at least one music video a week. In my survey results one person watched 1-3, one watched around 4-6, two watched 7-9 and one said they watch more than 10 in a week. This helped a lot as a I have a mixed amount and people somewhat watched the music videos so this helps a lot as my opinions will I know my results will be based on people who watch a variety of music videos a week.

As we can see from written results majority of people said that they preferred pop music and also some people from the video said they like Hip-Hop/RnB too. This was useful as my music video was going to be mainly based on pop so this will allow me to know exactly what is needed to please my target audience. However, it was also good that some of the people who answered my survey liked RnB as me and my partner wanted to include conventions of it too.

Narrative and performance were what many people expected in music video people were interested in mainly. This was interesting as this shows that in the music video both elements will need to be included which I believe my artist can do. In addition to that by having both elements it'll make our music video more interesting and engaging too as by having only one aspect such as 'performance' in a music video can make it boring so we will try to include both performance and narrative and not conceptual as it's not favoured by my target audience.

In the question where if people believed music videos were important to the success of an artist it was more tightly than anticipated. However, the majority of them did vote yes which shows that we need to make sure the artist is properly prepared for the music video as if people do judge them on music videos then this shows that it's important to make sure the artist does it's best in the music video.

When asked about their favourite music artist it was tight between Maggie Lindemann and Drake. This is good because my music in my music video is by Maggie Lindemann so by people liking her this shows that their most likely to like the song one and also it allows me and my partner to look at Maggie Lindemann and try see what's good about her so we can take her strengths and give advice to my artist.

When I asked about their current favourite music video and reasonings behind them people had different reasons. As you can see from the videos one person said they liked it cause of the message sent from the music video. This is important to know as if people like the message then this shows the importance of the narrative as we need to ensure that the narrative is clear so the audience doesn't struggle to understand it. Also someone said that they liked their favourite video due to the creativity. This can be done in many ways but me and my partner believe that the best way to do it by going to locations which stand out with the art or lighting.

When asked about what people wanted to see in a pop video the most common answers were dancing. This will need to be somewhat included in my music video as it was a clear answer given by the majority which shows they enjoy it. When asked about RnB they said they wanted to love based. Due to the song I'm not too sure if love based narrative will be suitable so we may use other concepts to make the video more RnB based.

Genre Conventions (Shopping List)

Hello everyone today I'm going to show you my 'shopping list' on what is to be potentially included in my music video. I'm going to include both Pop and R&B in my shopping list as me and my partner have decided that as Maggie Lindemann was influenced by artists who thought out of the box and didn't just focus on Pop music it'll make the music video more interesting. In addition to that our own artist Elisia have the capabilities to show off both Pop and R&B in our music video too.

Pop Conventions:

Performance - One of the most important conventions is that the performance is based on the Artist. We need to ensure that the performance is purely based on the artist and in the narrative is the main character. In addition to that in pop it's important that our Artist performance in a way which is engaging to the audience such as being cute throughout the music video as this is done in most music videos to appeals to the audience.

Outfits - We need to ensure that we have mainstream outfits that are fashionable. This is important as in Pop we see artists wearing the most fashionable clothes and nothing old so the audience can relate to it as they're likely to be a young audience.

Camera Angles - I believe it's important we include vital camera angles such as close ups in the music video. This is because in Pop it's important that the artist stays recognised and have their faces relevant and a close up as it allows the audience to remember them.

R&B Conventions:

Make-up and Jewellery - I believe it's important that we include make-up on our artist. In R&B their make-up is usually bold and excessive to make sure they stand out such as wearing red lipstick. Jewellery is an important part to this combination too as in R&B they always have Jewellery which stand out such as big necklaces or earrings.

Lighting - It's important that there's effective lighting used as they help show the emotions of the artist. As our music video is more fast paced than slow we could potentially use low key lighting to show the some of the upsetting bits about the song such as people seeing her just as a pretty girl.

Props - Another aspect that is usually included in POP videos is materialisation. There's a lot of expensive material which gets used by the artist the express the emotions they're feeling in the music video. For example, in our music video we can use props to express the things our artists like to do such as a basketball to show she likes to play it and more than being just a 'pretty girl'.

Weekly Update

Hello everyone it's that time of the week again where I'll give you a quick update on what has happened this week. During the start of the week me and my partner made our own song selections and shared it with each other to why we like these songs and think we should recreate the video. My song selections were shared with you guys but as you might know we decided that go with one of her options 'Pretty Girl' by Maggie Lindemann which I explained the reasonings behind why we decided to recreate this music video. Finally I also done some research on Maggie Lindemann about her past and also her influences this week so I can know about the artists and you guys can too so I hope you found that useful.

See you guys next week with another update :)

Chosen Artist Research

Hi everyone today I'm going to be explaining a bit more about my artist for 'Pretty Girls' and her past and her influences.

BIOGRAPHY:

Maggie Lindemann was born in 21st July 1998 and is an American singer who was born in Dallas, Texas. She started to record her singing on the social media app called 'Keek' which she managed to gain a lot of followers on the app and lead to her also gaining more on other social media accounts too. Her career began when she was discovered by Gerald Tennison discovered a video of her singing which she then relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her music career. Lindemann's debut single was 'Knocking on your heart' was released in September 2015. It was a huge success as it ended up being in the Top 20 iTunes chart within 24 hours of it being released which managed to grab more attention about her. She then released her second single 'Couple of kids' which was released on October 2015 which wasn't as successful as 'knocking on your heart'. However, her third single 'Things' in 2016 which managed to get into the top 25 iTunes Chart a day of its release, the Spotify Top 50 charts and top 5 Canada viral chart. Lindemann's argubally most successful song 'Pretty Girl' was released on September 29th, 2016 was written by her to 'show people that they're more things to girls than just being pretty which was a success worldwide as it ended up getting over 95million views on YouTube and was her first song to be in the US Pop Radio charts and ended up in the top 50 there.

INFLUENCES:

Lindemann was influenced by people who were less like the typical pop stars who follow the rules of the industry such as BANKS and Lana Del Rey. For example, both artists tend to have different apporach in lyric wise as BANKS she mixes her song up with a bit of R&B and POP which many other POP artists don't by having conflicting lyrics in her songs. Lana del Rey uses a similar apporach too by having a combination of 'Alternative' and 'POP' in her music by starting slow and having a mood like that throughout the song which a normal POP artists will have different beats going from fast to slow etc she only has one.

Final Song Selection

Hello everyone today me and my partner have finally decided to pick the song we want to do for our music video. We've decided to go with 'Pretty Girl' by Maggie Lindemann. One of the reasons for choosing this song is that the lyrics have a lot of meaning. The person who sang/written the song said itself that people are judged by how they look and not their actual self. As a result me and my partner thought it'll be a good idea to do this song as in our narrative we can show the two sides to a person and have rough ideas on how it'll work.

During the original music video we also see this aspect of her showing that she's not just a pretty girl but has other sides to her too which no one see's by her doing different stuff with her friends. The music video will be available to view for yourself right below this text.
